CHARLOTTE COMPLETES SERIES SWEEP OF TEMPLE WITH 12-2 WIN
4.2.06 | Baseball
CHARLOTTE, NC -- Charlotte took advantage of two costly Temple errors to score seven unearned runs and complete the series sweep with a 12-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Tom and Lib Phillips Field. The game was stopped with one out in the seventh due to the Atlantic 10 ten-run rule for Sunday league games. Junior Dan Brady had two hits, including a double, to lead Temple.
The 49ers (21-8, 6-0 A-10), who swept their second straight conference series, scored four runs in the first inning for the second consecutive day. All four runs were unearned as an Owl error kept the inning alive. Spencer Steedley, who doubled and homered on Saturday, continued to terrorize the visitors with a two-run dinger in the frame.
Charlotte added a single run in the third and broke open the game with a six-run sixth. Three runs in that inning were unearned as well. The game was called after a sacrifice fly by Adam Floyd gave the hosts a 12-2 lead in the seventh.
The Cherry and White (6-19, 1-5) scored a run in both in the sixth and seventh innings. Brady's third double of the weekend plated freshman Jamie Abercrombie, who singled earlier in the inning. An inning later, sophomore Devon Swope plated freshman Pat Riley, who led off the inning with a single.
Sophomore Tom Dolan took the loss to drop to 1-2. He allowed 11 runs (four earned) in six innings while striking out four.
Charlotte's Derek McDaid fired his third straight complete game to improve to 6-1 this season.
The Owls added a non-conference game on Wednesday against Lehigh at Ambler Field. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. It will be the third match-up of the season between the two teams, with the Mountain Hawks winning the first two. Live statistics will be available via owlsports.com.
