NTINI LEADS OWLS AT TERRAPIN INVITATIONAL

COLLEGE PARK, MD - Freshman Themba Ntini finished third in the long jump to lead the Temple men's track and field team to a 16th place finish at the Terrapin Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland. Ntini, who recorded a distance of 6.86m in the long jump, also finished 14th in the triple jump. Another freshman, Joshua Louis, had an impressive showing in the high jump, clearing 1.88m to finish fifth.
In the throws, freshman Bryce Buffaloe was 16th in the shot put (13.00m), 18th in the hammer throw (37.58m) and 26th in the discus (33.47m). Junior Andrew Fries finished seventh in the javelin (56.10m) and approached IC4A qualifying standards.
Senior Steven Johnson ran a season-best time of 11.29 to place 23rd in the 100m. Classmate Matt Kobialka also ran a season-best time in the 400m (51.84, 33rd). Freshman Adin Mickle was 26th in the 5000m (16:15.28) and Kobialka was 12th in the 3000m steeplechase (10:44.37).
The Owls finished 16th in the 26-team field with 11.50 points. The host Terrapins won the event with 91 points, followed by UMBC (75) and Shippensburg (63.50). Temple will split its squads next weekend at the Duke and Delaware Invitationals.
