MEN'S CREW COMPETES AT SAN DIEGO CREW CLASSIC

SAN DIEGO, CA -- The Temple men's varsity eight crew headed west for the 2006 San Diego Crew Classic held Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2. The Owls placed fifth in Sunday's Grand Final against stiff competition with two of the crews, Stanford, ranked second nationally, winning the event, and fourth-ranked California coming in second.
Head coach Gavin White's crew held fourth place at the 1200-meter mark of the race before being edged by 1.3 seconds by a game Purdue crew in the final 400 meters. The varsity eight was manned by Thomas Goldner (cox), Peter Gostling (stroke), James Harding (7-seat), Dante Cammarata (6), Chris Thomas (5), Tom Haubrich (4), Robert Protesto (3), T.J. Burke (2) and Mike Shisler (bow).
The Owls next compete at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
