MEN'S CREW WINS THREE RACES AT THE KNECHT CUP

COLLINGSWOOD, NJ -- The Temple Men's Crew team had a tremendous day on the Cooper River Sunday, winning all three of its races it competed in at the Knecht Regatta. The Owls Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Freshman Novice Four crews all were victorious on the water.
In the varsity 8 race, Temple turned it up a notch over the final 500 meters to beat second place Holy Cross by four seconds. The Owls varsity 8 of Rory Roberts (cox), Peter Gostling (stroke), James Harding (7-seat), Dante Cammarata (6), Chris Thomas (5), Tom Haubrich (4), Robert Protesto (3), T.J. Burke (2) and Mike Shisler (bow) took the lead for good 500 meters into the race and then broke the race open with 900 meters to go. The crew completed the race in six minutes, rowing 41 strokes per minute at the start and averaging 35 strokes per minute for the better part of the race before increasing the pace to 37 strokes per minute at the finish.
The Owls' 2nd Varsity 8 led from start to finish in winning their race by two-and-a-half boat lengths in a time of 6:23. The crew, comprised of Thomas Goldner (cox) Andreas Mantzoukas (stroke), Matt Hanlin (7), Chris Bushek (6), Don Powers (5), Bill Gennaro (4), Joseph Welch (3),Cy Haines (2) and Timothy Malloy (bow), opened with a 42 stroke per minute pace, leveled at 35 spm before increasing to 38 strokes per minute at the finish.
The freshman novice four also led from the start, rowing at 33 strokes per minute in winning by 19 seconds. The crew was comprised of Michael Burger (cox), Nicholas Kahn (stroke), Will Weaver (3) Brendan Uhll (2) and Eric Alexander (bow).
The Owls next take the water at Georgetown on April 22.
