MEN'S TRACK PLACES EIGHTH AT A-10S

CHARLOTTE, NC - The 4x800 relay met IC4A qualifying standards and sophomore Andrew Fries finished second in the javelin (188-1) as the Temple men's track and field team finished eighth at the Atlantic 10 Championships at Charlotte this weekend. Two more competitors, senior Steven Johnson and freshman Joshua Louis, nearly met IC4A standards in the long jump and 110m hurdles.

Johnson finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 23-2 1/2, just one inch short of qualifying for the IC4A Championships next weekend. Louis ran a time of 15.00 in the 110m hurdles, missing out by 0.15, and finished fifth.

The 4x400 relay placed fourth, while the IC4A qualifying 4x800 was seventh. In the throws, freshman Bryce Buffaloe was sixth in the shot put (44-4 3/4), seventh in the discus (132-1) and ninth in the hammer (131-8).

Charlotte ended Rhode Island's streak of five straight A-10 Championships with 205 points. After URI (176) was La Salle (113), Saint Joseph's (105), Duquesne (94.33), Fordham (45.33), Massachusetts (38), Temple (37.33), Richmond (35) and Xavier (2).

Temple returns to action on May 11-14 at the IC4A Championships at Princeton.
