TEMPLE REPRESENTED AT 2006 SENIOR WORLD ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS

8.18.06 | Men's Crew

PHILADELPHIA  -- Temple men's crew coach Gavin White has been selected to coach the men's pair without coxswain at the 2006 Senior World Rowing Championships being held at Eton, Germany from August 20 through August 27.  Former Temple coxswain Marcus McElhenney ('03) will also be competing for the U.S. team, serving as the coxswain for the men's eight.

White, who recently completed his 27th season as head coach of Temple's men's crew team, is not a newcomer to the international rowing scene.  The 2003 Schuylkill Navy Coach of the Year is a five-time U.S. National Rowing Team coach. He coached the men's four at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia and most recently coached the 2003 men's pair with coxswain to the gold medal at the FISA World Rowing Championships held in Milan, Italy.  He also guided the men's four with coxswain to gold at the 1999 World Rowing Championships in St. Catherine's, Ontario.

McElhenny, like White, is a veteran international competitor.  He is a two-time world champion coxswain (2003, 2005).  While at Temple, the Lansdowne, Pa. native (Monsignor Bonner HS) helped lead the Owls to three Dad Vail Championships.
