PHILADELPHIA- Yue Liu led Temple with 15 kills and just one error as the Owls swept Lehigh, 3-0 in the opening match of the Temple Invitational. TU defeated the Mountain Hawks, 30-12, 30-18 and 30-16.
In game one, the Temple Owls came out ready to play. They covered the floor well with intense defense and held Lehigh to only 12 points. Katrina Mullins, Yan Liu, and Ying Sun Ling all did their part on defense contributing 6 digs each for the match. Hard-hitting Yue Liu came out strong setting the tone for the match, ending the night with 15 kills on 22 attempts.
After winning a quick first game, Temple came out a bit slower in the second game, but Christina DeMarco kept the life in the team with her strong net play and connecting with both Maira Mongollon and Jackie Morrison on outstanding hits from the middle. Maira lead the team with 19 assists and did a good job distributing the ball to her hitters. Temple went on to win that game 30-18.
Finishing up the match with a 30-16 victory, Temple looked impressive in their first outing. Patricia Vernon also added to Temple's success by adding 4 kills and leading the team with 6 service aces.
