WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS SHORT AT DELAWARE

NEWARK, DE - The Temple women's volleyball team saw its season-opening three-game win streak come to a crashing halt Tuesday evening at Delaware as the host Blue Hens downed the Owls in three straight games at Barbara Viera Court. Delaware posted 30-26, 30-23, and 30-27 scores in the game. Delaware improves to 4-0 on the season while Temple falls to 3-1.
The Owls put up a fight in the first game of the match. The action was back and fourth with neither team leading by more than three points. Service errors proved to be Temple's downfall in game one, as well as the match (10 errors) for the Owls.
Junior outside hitter Yue Liu posted a team-high 14 kills and 12 digs. Liu and Patrica Vernon (6 kills) each recorded three blocks. Ying Sun Ling also contributed nine kills for Temple.
For the Blue Hens, junior Megan Welch recorded a game-high 36 assists to go along with a team-high three service aces. Sophomore Kelly Gibson and freshman Kelly Matthias each posted a team-high 12 kills, Gibson also led the team defensively with 16 digs.
The women's volleyball team returns home to host the Temple Classic this weekend. The action gets underway Friday (September 1) when the owls take on Kansas at 7:00 p.m.
