PHILADELPHIA - Five games against teams that participated in last year's NCAA Tournament, including three conference champions, highlight the 2007 Temple baseball schedule, head coach Rob Valli announced today. The Owls will visit North Carolina, last year's national runnner-up, on March 7 and also take on NCAA qualifiers UNC Wilmington, Winthrop, Lehigh and Saint Louis.

"We have created the most challenging schedule in the history of our program. By playing this type of non-conference schedule we are preparing for the challenges of the A-10 as well as the post season."

"We have created the most challenging schedule in the history of our program," Valli said. "By playing this type of non-conference schedule we are preparing for the challenges of the A-10 as well as the post season."

Temple begins the season with a 11-game road trip, starting with a three-game series at CAA champion UNC Wilmington on February 16-18. After a trip to New Mexico State, the Owls begin their annual spring break trip at the Winthrop Tournament on March 2-4. TU will remain south, visiting Duke and North Carolina in mid-week contests before returning home for the home opener against Buffalo on March 9.

The Cherry and White will again play host to the Villanova Tournament, featuring Binghamton, Iona and Long Island. Other non-conference games at Skip Wilson Field include Delaware, Villanova and Lafayette. Temple will also visit Patriot League champion Lehigh, Penn, St. John's, Penn State, George Mason, Rider and Villanova in mid-week action. TU will visit Delaware on March 27 in the first round of the Liberty Bell Classic.

The Atlantic 10 slate opens on March 23 with a three-game series against Massachusetts at Skip Wilson Field. The Owls will also host Xavier and defending conference champion Saint Louis in A-10 action, while making trips to La Salle, Dayton, Richmond, Fordham, Duquesne and St. Bonaventure. The Atlantic 10 Tournament will return to Dayton after a one-year hiatus to Fordham in 2006.

"Our primary goal is to win the Atlantic 10 Championship," Valli said. "In order to be a championship caliber team we must learn how to compete against the best programs in the country. This year's team understands the challenges that we have created and will work relentlessly to meet these expectations."
