ALBANY, NY- Putting up a tough fight against The University of Albany Great Danes, Temple loses their fifth match in a row. Temple took games one and four with the scores of 30-22 and 30-25, but UAlbany outlasted the Owls and won the match 3-2, taking games two, three and five with the scores of 30-24, 30-25 and 15-8. Senior Yue Liu led TU once again with 16 kills and added in a service ace and two blocks.
Temple showed up on the offensive end today in Albany, totaling up 62 kills in the match with Senior Jessica Waybrant helping the Owls along with her 13 kills. Junior Christina DeMarco continued her dominance at the net posting 15 kills and team high five blocks. Sophomore Patricia Vernon once again showed her presence with four blocks and six kills.
With two Great Danes players leading the team with 19 kills (Ashley Crenshaw and Shelby Golman), Temple had it cut out for them defensively. For the second game in a row, Senior Yan Liu led the Owls with digs (22) and Yue helped significantly with 19. Senior Maira Mogollon also played good defense with her 12 digs, along with her setting job in which she accumulated 47 assists.
The match went down to the decisive fifth game in which UAlbany finished the match off with their .202 hitting percentage, 86 digs and 10 blocks. With the win, the Great Danes better their record to 4-5, while Temple falls to 5-7.
Temple will be taking on Syracuse University tonight at 5:00pm in their final game of the tournament.
