Temple Back On Track Beating Syracuse 3-2

ALBANY, NY - Temple took on Syracuse in their final match of the Albany Tournament. These highly competitive teams gave their all and fought to the end of every game. The Owls edged out the Orange in the end, defeating Syracuse 3-2 with game scores of 34-32, 27-30, 30-27, 28-30, and 15-13. It was an all-out hitting battle with Temple junior Ying Sun Ling leading the way with 20 kills and three service aces.
Sophomore Patricia Vernon had a break-out performance racking up 18 kills with only one error (.405 hitting percentage) and three blocks. Christina DeMarco (16), Yue Liu (15) and Jessica Waybrant (14) compiled 45 of the team's 86 kills off of Maira Mogollon's 68 assists. All of the Temple offense showed up to get them back in the win column.
The Orange was led by Cheryl Cobbina, who had a team-high 34 kills. Temple's defense, spearheaded by senior Yan Liu, (24 digs), was up to the challenge. On top of her outstanding hitting performance, Ying Sun Ling also contributed defensively, adding 15 digs and one block.
Temple improves to 6-7 on the season with the win while the Orange fall to 3-13. Yan Liu was named to the all-tournament team after her outstanding weekend in Albany.
The Cherry and White take the floor again this Friday at Duquesne (7:00 p.m.).
