TEMPLE WINS SECOND MATCH OF THE DAY AGAINST MAINE

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple volleyball team came out hard in its second match of the day and capped the night with a 3-1 win over Maine in the final match of the Temple Classic. Junior Yue Lie set the bar for the Owls (5-2) with 24 kills and 13 digs in the victory. Temple won the opening game easily (30-10), but dropped the second, 30-21. The Cherry and White finished with 30-21 and 30-28 wins to take the match.
In game one, Temple out-hit the Blackbears, 14-1, and took that game quickly. TU struggled in game two, even with the solid defense of sophomore Katrina Mullins, who led the team with 14 digs for the match. Senior Maira Mogollon kept her team together and dished out 57 assists on the team's 65 kills.
Senior Jessica Waybrant (12 kills), junior Christina DeMarco (11 kills), and sophomore Patrica Vernon (11 kills) also did their part in keeping Temple rolling. DeMarco also dominated the net with six blocks.
Maine falls to 0-6 with the loss.
Temple resumes action on Friday, September 8 at 2:00 pm (EDT) against Utah in the Utah Classic.
