PITTSBURGH, PA - Temple opened its Atlantic 10 Conference schedule with a victory over Duquesne, 3-0. Led by senior Yue Liu (19 kills, 19 digs) the Owls took the games with the scores of 30-23, 30-22, 30-26.
Coming out strong from the beginning, Temple was led by junior Christina DeMarco who had seven of her 14 kills in game one. Also coming up strong for the Cherry and White was senior Jessica Waybrant who contributed to the Owls success with 12 kills and one block.
Amanda Haeg led Duquesne with 10 of the team's 35 kills. Temple simply out-hit the Dukes, racking up 57 kills for the match. The games were not all about TU's offense. Along with Yue Liu, Yan Liu (13 digs) and Ying Sun Ling (12 digs) provided the Owls with support on the defensive end. Sophomore Patricia Vernon continued her solid role posting nine kills and one block.
The Temple Owls returned to .500 with a record of 7-7 (1-0 in conference play). Duquesne falls to 6-12 with the loss (0-1 in A-10).
Temple travels to Missouri to take on Saint Louis University Saturday at 8:00 p.m. (EDT).
