PHILADELPHIA- Temple (10-4) begins the 2006-07 Atlantic 10 season when it hosts city rival Saint Joseph's (7-6) on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. This is the 62nd meeting between the Owls and the Hawks. St. Joe's leads the series, 39-22, which began in the 1938 season. The Owls took the last meeting, 59-53, on February 17, 2006 at the Liacouras Center.

Senior All-America candidate Kamesha Hairston led Temple with 20 points and nine rebounds in just 24 minutes of action as the Owls (10-4) posted their sixth straight win, a 71-37 rout of the visiting Brown Bears (2-11). Hairston added three blocks, two assists and one steal as she led three players in double figures. Lady Comfort scored 10 points in 14 minutes of play, while Candice Borrows tallied a career-high 11 points off of three-for-six shooting from long range. Shenita Landry was unstoppable on defense, finishing with three blocks, all of which came in the first stanza, three steals and two assists.

Hairston leads Temple in scoring and rebounding, averaging 22.1 ppg and 9.9 rpg. Comfort is second with 12.3 ppg and Maddox is third, averaging 12.0 ppg. Eaddy continues to put up great numbers, with the guard fourth in scoring (7.1 ppg) and first in assists (55).

Behind a 12-2 run midway through the second half, the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team downed Villanova, 56-48, in its Big 5 opener Wednesday night. Trailing 31-23 with 12:03 remaining in the game, Saint Joseph's mounted a 12-2 streak to take the lead for the first time since the opening moments of the first half. Nine of the Hawks 12 points came from behind the arc, with sophomore guard Jenna Loschiavo putting SJU ahead 35-33 on a three at the 8:01 mark. Ayahna Cornish led all scorers with 20 points, to go with seven rebounds and four steals, while Oyler was the only other Hawk in double figures with 10 points and a block. Erica Pollock added a game-high 12 rebounds and six points.

Cornish leads SJU in scoring, averaging 15.8 ppg, while Oyler is second with 10 ppg. Pollock is tops in rebounds (6.2 rpg), while Whitney Ffrench leads in assists (37).

We're Going Streaking!
Temple has won six straight games and has posted a 5-1 record at home thus far this season, with its only loss coming at the hands of top-ranked Maryland.

Player of the Week
Senior Kamesha Hairston has earned her fourth Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honor after averaging 27 ppg and 9.9 rpg in two wins for Temple. Against Florida, the senior played every minute of the 45 minute overtime battle, tallying 34 points, 10 rebounds and six steals.
