Temple Volleyball Wins Second Straight Match, 3-1, Over Duquesne

PHILADELPHIA-Patricia Vernon posted a double-double (10 kills, 15 digs) and added seven total blocks to help lead Temple to a 3-1 win over Duquesne on Friday night. Yun Yi Zhang earned a match-high 26 kills, while Jacqueline Cowden tallied seven block assists. Temple improves to 7-15 overall, 3-3 in the A-10, while Duquesne falls to 9-11 overall, 1-4 in the Conference.

The Owls took game one, 30-23, though the Dukes made them earn every single point. The game featured seven ties and two lead changes. Duquesne got the best of Temple in game two, jumping out to a 6-1 lead, and never looking back to win the game, 30-27. The Owls fought throughout, however, forcing 11 different ties. The Cherry and White finished off the match with 30-27 and 30-26 wins, respectively. Duquesne hit just .062 in game four to aid in the Owls' victory.

Cowden added a career-high 13 kills to her performance, while Yue Liu had 14. Jackie Morrison and Ariel Pierre shared setting duties, with the duo dishing 36 and 21, respectively. Senior libero Ying Sun Ling added 20 more digs to her career total to 1,535.

Temple returns to action tomorrow when it hosts Saint Louis at 1 p.m.
