PHILADELPHIA-Temple was relentless on both the offensive and defensive ends on Wednesday night, shutting out the Villanova Wildcats, 3-0, in McGonigle Hall. The Owls had a total of 11 blocks and nearly a 38% hitting percentage, trumping `Nova's four blocks and 11% hitting percentage. Temple improves to 8-16 overall, while the Wildcats fall to 13-9.

The Owls were dominant from the first whistle, taking a 3-0 lead and using runs of up to six points to do away with Villanova, 30-16, in game one. Play was competitive in the beginning of game two but an 8-0 Cherry and White run quickly made it an eight point game (17-9). The Wildcats tried to close the gap in the end but could only get as close as seven before falling, 30-22. Facing elimination, Villanova came alive in game three, tying the score nine different times. With the score tied at 29, `Nova made a big play to go up by one, but the Owls came charging back to tie the game yet again at 30 and hold on for the 32-30 result.

Yue Liu led TU with 16 kills, just one error, and was one of four Owls with at least four blocks. Patricia Vernon had 13 kills and six blocks, while Yun Yi Zhang posted 10 kills. Newcomer Imani Harper was strong at the net, contributing a career-high six blocks. Jacqueline Cowden had four blocks. Jackie Morrison dished a match-high 38 assists.

Temple goes on the road for the first time in October this weekend, facing off against Fordham on Friday and Rhode Island on Saturday.
