PHILADELPHIA- The Temple volleyball team dominated the visiting Charlotte 49ers, 3-0 on Friday night, earning a .269 attacking percentage to Charlotte's -.025. Yue Liu and Yun Yi Zhang led the Owls with 10 kills a piece, while Sun Ying Ling had 14 digs. Temple improves to 11-16 overall and 6-4 in the A-10, while the 49ers fall to 12-12 overall, 2-7 in Conference play.
The Cherry and White used a 37% hitting percentage and allowed Charlotte no kills to close out the 49ers, 30-19, in game one. Temple continued its strong play in games two (30-21) and three, behind strong serving by Patricia Vernon. Vernon earned eight straight points in game three to help TU to the 30-18 result.
Vernon contributed 10 digs on the night. Jackie Morrison dished 17 assists, while Ariel Pierre had 13. Jacqueline Cowden and Vernon blocked three 49er attacks, apiece.
The Owls host A-10 East opponent George Washington tomorrow at 1 p.m. Tomorrow also marks Senior Day. Seniors Yue Liu and Sun Ying Ling will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
