Temple Volleyball To Face Charlotte And George Washington This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA-Temple (10-16, 5-4 A-10) enters play this weekend atop the Atlantic 10 standings and will host Charlotte tonight at 7 p.m. and George Washington on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Owls will also celebrate Senior Day on Saturday. Yue Liu and Sun Ying Ling will be honored in a pre-game ceremony. The games can be seen live on the internet.
SCOUTING THE 49ERS: Charlotte split the weekend, dropping a 3-0 decision to Saint Louis last Friday but bounced back to shut out Duquesne Saturday. In the loss to SLU, Alma Arroyo led the Niners with 10 kills, while Carly Romberg recorded 24 digs. Eden Ramos logged 31 assists. On Saturday, Arroyo led all players with 20 kills. She recorded her team-leading 11th double-double of the season by adding 17 digs. Cori Dayton (13) and Kat Hicks (10) also were in double-figures in kills for Charlotte. Dayton added 14 digs for her tenth double-double of the season. Ramos produced 40 assists, with Romberg posting the match-high 25 digs. Dayton leads Charlotte with 332 kills, while Ramos is tops in assists (851). Romberg has earned 403 digs thus far this season.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS: GW also split last weekend, winning, 3-1, against Duquesne but dropping a match to Saint Louis, 3-0, the next day. In the win against the Dukes, GW blocked 11 Duquesne attacks compared to just two for DU. The Colonials were led by Abby Syverson's 16 kills and six blocks while hitting .500. Janine Brown added a team-high 18 kills and 16 digs for her 19th double-double this season. In the loss to SLU, GW hit a season-low .029.
SENIOR DAY: Seniors Yue Liu and Sun Ying Ling will be honored in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony on Saturday. The duo have been two of the most prolific players in Temple volleyball history, combining for a 35-14 A-10 record (as of 10/25). Liu has twice been voted to the A-10's First Team after garnering Rookie of the Year honors in 2004. Ling earned a spot on the A-10's Second Team last season and was a member of the All-Rookie Team in 2004. They will both graduate atop the career lists in various categories including digs, kills and hitting attempts.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: After leading TU to three straight wins last week, senior outside hitter Yue Liu was selected the Atlantic 10's Co-Player of the Week for the week ending October 21. Liu earned 40 kills and 31 digs and had a .355 hitting percentage to lead TU to wins over Villanova, Fordham and Rhode Island. In the 3-0 victory over Villanova, she had 16 kills, just one error, and was one of four Owls with at least four blocks. In the 3-1 victory at Fordham, she had her fourth double-double of the season (13 kills, 13 digs) and at URI, she had 11 kills (just one error), nine digs and three blocks.
