Temple Volleyball Wins Fifth Straight, Topping GW, 3-0

PHILADELPHIA- Yue Liu and Yun Yi Zhang continued their stellar play, earning double-doubles to help Temple shut out George Washington, 3-0, and win its fifth straight match. Zhang posted 21 kills, just three errors, and 12 digs, while Liu had 11 kills, just one error, and 10 digs. Zhang added four blocks as the Owls improve to 12-16, 7-4 in the A-10. GW, who won the season's first meeting, drops to 12-14, 4-6 in Conference play.
The Cherry and White were fierce at the net, posting 11 blocks to GW's one.
Temple was unstoppable in game one, using a 58% hitting percentage to top the Colonials, 30-15. Play was tight in game two and the Colonials took an early lead. The Owls were not behind for long, however, thanks to great serving by Sun Ying Ling, and earned a 30-28 victory. GW came out fighting in game three, going ahead 9-3, but TU came battling back and closed out the game and match, 30-21.
Cayleigh Ashman had a stellar day, with three service aces and a match and career-high six blocks. Patricia Vernon contributed 11 digs and nine kills, narrowly missing a double-double. Jackie Morrison dished a match-high 30 assists, while Ariel Pierre had 12.
Temple is off until Tuesday, November 6, when it travels to Long Island for a 5 p.m. match.
