Volleyball Fights Hard Against #15 Dayton But Drops Match, 3-0

PHILADELPHIA-Temple gave #15 Dayton everything it had but could not overcome a tough and undefeated Flyer squad, dropping its homecoming match, 3-0. The Owls fall to 5-14 overall, 1-2 in the A-10, while Dayton improves to 18-0, 5-0 in the Conference.
Temple hung tough throughout the entire match, never letting the Flyers get ahead by more than 10 points. Neither team played particularly well in game one, with Dayton earning a .122 hitting percentage to the Owls' .083. The Flyers came out on top, however, with a 30-22 advantage. The Cherry and White drastically improved in the second set but fell short, 30-26. Game three seemed to belong to Temple, as the Owls took their first lead, going up 24-20. The Flyers would not stay down for long, however, battling back to tie the score at 25 and then go ahead 26-25. Temple refused to back down and tied the score yet again at 27 but it was not enough as the Flyers finished off the game and match, 30-28.
Yun Yi Zhang and Ariel Pierre continued their strong play, each posting double-doubles. Zhang with 15 kills and 10 digs and Pierre with 22 assists and 10 digs. Sun Ying Ling had 12 digs and Jackie Morrison dished 11 assists to round out the double figure tallies.
The Owls continue their tough A-10 weekend with a match against Xavier tomorrow at 1 p.m.
