Volleyball To Host La Salle Tonight At 7 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple (5-15, 1-3 A-10) volleyball team will host Atlantic 10 and Philly rival La Salle (9-13, 1-3 A-10) tonight at 7 p.m. The match can be seen live on owlsports.com. Temple is a perfect 34-0 against La Salle. In the teams' last meeting on November 3, 2006, the Owls defeated the Explorers, 3-0. Live Video

Tonight also marks Temple's Dig For The Cure Match. For every dig TU records, it will donate money to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Pledges will also be accepted throughout the month of October.

The Owls had two tough matches over the weekend, losing to #15 Dayton, 3-0, and Xavier 3-2. On Friday, Temple hung tough throughout the entire match, never letting the Flyers get ahead by more than 10 points. Yun Yi Zhang and Ariel Pierre continued their strong play, each posting double-doubles, Zhang with 15 kills and 10 digs and Pierre with 22 assists and 10 digs. On Sunday, Zhang had a career day at the net, posting a match-high 33 kills and just eight errors. The Owls forced 33 tie scores and 11 lead changes.

For her efforts, Zhang was named A-10 Rookie of the Week.

Zhang leads the team with 288 kills, while Sun Ying Ling has 258 digs. Caitlin Loudon has dished 352 assists on the season.

The Explorers dropped two matches over the weekend, both 3-0 results, to Xavier and #15 Dayton.

Rachel Stemper led the Explorers with nine kills, but La Salle couldn't get on track against Xavier. As a team, La Salle managed to hit just .081 for the match, while Xavier posted a .311 hitting percentage. Against Dayton, Jackie Kushman led the way for the Explorers, tallying nine kills on the afternoon. Kayla Beck led La Salle with 12 digs.
