PHILADELPHIA- With a win over Fordham on Saturday, the Temple volleyball team captured the Atlantic 10 East Divisional Title and advanced to its 12th straight A-10 Tournament. The Tournament will take place at Charlotte's Halton Arena, November 16-18. The Owls earned the fourth seed and will face fifth-seeded Fordham on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Temple, 14-17 overall, posted a division-best 9-4 Conference record and is looking to take home the crown for the first time since 2002. The Owls have won four A-10 titles overall. The Cherry and White is 25-1 all-time against Fordham and took both meetings earlier this season, 3-1 and 3-0, respectively.
Fordham (15-19/5-8) is making its second-straight appearance in the Championship and are looking for their first-ever title. The Rams had the same conference record as #6 George Washington but earn the higher seed due to a season sweep of the Colonials.
Yun Yi Zhang leads the Owls in kills with 469, while Temple's all-time career dig leader Sun Ying Ling has 390 digs. Freshman Jacqueline Cowden is TU's top blocker, with 131 blocks. Sophomore Jackie Morrison has dished a team-high 434 assists.
#3 Saint Louis and #6 George Washington face off on Friday at 5 p.m. The winners of the two First Round matches will play #1 Dayton or #2 Xavier on Saturday. Dayton will take on the lowest remaining seed at 5 p.m., while the Musketeers will play against the highest remaining seed at 7:30 p.m. The Championship match is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
