PHILADELPHIA- Yun Yi Zhang and Patricia Vernon notched double-doubles but it was not enough to topple the 16th-ranked Dayton Flyers, who defeated Temple, 3-1, in the semifinal round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Temple finishes its A-10 season with a 15-17 record, 9-4 in Conference, while Dayton rides its nation's best 29-1 record into the A-10 Championship on Sunday.

Zhang had 11 kills and 10 digs, while Vernon had a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs. First Team All-Conference selection Yue Liu had a team-high 16 digs, while Sun Ying Ling had 15 digs.

The Owls fought hard, despite posting just a .152 hitting percentage hung tight with the Flyers for the majority of the match. Game one was tight, though the Owls hit just .030, compared to Dayton's .225, and Temple allowed UD to escape with a 30-24 victory.
The second game was much closer as Dayton started by building a 9-5 lead early on, but Temple came back to take the lead late 21-20 on an UD attack error. After a Flyer timeout, Dayton was back on top with a pair of kills sandwiched around a Temple error to force a TU timeout with the Flyers ahead 23-21. Following the break, Dayton took a 25-21 lead which held up for a 30-26 game two win.
Temple came out with a more focused effort in game two and led by as many at seven at one point before Dayton came back on a 10-3 run to knot the score at 24-24 on a kill by Bethany Akerhielm. The Flyers went ahead on a service ace and another tip to back corner by Akerhielm, but TU would rally to tie the score again at 26-26. From there Vernon took over for the Owls with a pair of kills to close out a 30-27 win that extended the match to a fourth game.

Temple had a 0.00 hitting percentage and fell, 30-14 in the final game.

Temple continues its season next week, traveling to California for a tournament at Long Beach State. TU takes on Long Beach on November 21, UC Santa Barbara on November 23 and UC Irvine on November 24.
