Epeeist Howell Finishes 5th At Penn State Open

PHILADELPHIA- Sophomore Kristen Howell highlighted six top 16 fencing performances for Temple at the Penn State Open on Saturday in University Park, Pa.

The Owls strongest results came in epee. Howell, a finalist, placed fifth, while freshman Alyssa Lombardi and Grace Wu finished 10th and 14th, respectively. Rounding out the epee squad was senior Brianna Ferrara in 33rd and junior Kaitlyn Uckert in 36th. Taking first place was Anasta Ferdman from Penn State.

In foil, sophomores Abby Schifferle and Melissa Parker represented the Owls as semifinalist. Schifferle ended the day in 13th, while Parker finished 16th. The other foil finishes came from sophomore Meredith Bratton (26), senior Samantha Myles (27), and junior Nina Gernes (33). Ohio States Lindsay Knauer finished in first place in foil.

Freshman Audrey Barroso was Temple's lone semifinalist in sabre placing 13th on the day. After having to take a medical withdrawal, sophomore Christie Griffith ended the day placing 23rd. The remaining sabre finishes were sophomore Lauren Baker in 32nd and freshman Samantha Pascarelli in 40th. The sabre category was won by Ohio State's Siobhan Byrne.

The Owls will next compete on December 1 at the Princeton Multi-meet starting at 9:00 am.
