Temple Drops Match To Long Beach, 3-1

Long Beach, Calif.- Despite three players in double digit kills, Temple volleyball dropped its first match of the Baden Thanksgiving Classic, 3-1, on Wednesday night. Scores were 25-30, 22-30, 31-29 and 18-30.
Yun Yi Zhang tallied a match-high 20 kills, while Sun Ying Ling was tops in digs with 21. Jackie Morrison dished a career-high 44 assists. Cayleigh Ashman also had a career night, earning nine blocks. Patricia Vernon and Yue Liu rounded out the double figure kills category, posting 14 and 10, respectively.
Temple started strong in game one, with nearly a 42% hitting percentage but followed that up with a .098 performance to fall behind two games to none. The Owls managed to steal one in game three, pushing The Beach to the 31-29 result, despite hitting just .191 to LBSU's .200. Long Beach closed out the match in game four, however, with an emphatic 30-18 win.
The Cherry and White return to action on Friday, November 23 when they face UC Santa Barbara at 6 p.m. EST.
