Women's Basketball Hosts ACC Power NC State Saturday At 2 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA-Temple resumes its grueling non-conference schedule Saturday when it hosts ACC power NC State at 2 p.m. The Wolfpack, led by Hall of Fame coach Kay Yow, are currently riding a five game winning streak and stand a 7-1. The Owls are currently 3-4, though three of its four losses have come at the hands of Top 10 teams. The game can be heard live on WPHT The Big Talker 1210 AM.
This is the fourth meeting between Temple and NC State. The Wolfpack lead the series, 3-0, and narrowly defeated the Owls last season, 59-57, in Raleigh.
Temple is coming off of a 72-48 win over Ball State on Wednesday night. Ashley Morris led all scorers with 13 points, while Shanea Cotton came off the bench for a career-high 12 points, 10 of which she scored in the first half. Lady Comfort added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds and Dawnnae Roberts had a career-high eight points, including two treys in the second stanza that pushed the Owls' lead to 17 points, with 11 and a half minutes to go. The Owls led by 20 during the final five minutes of play.
Morris leads Temple in scoring and assists, averaging 16.3 ppg and dishing 24 assists. She also leads Temple in three-point shooting, making 38.6% of her attempts. Comfort is tops in rebounding, grabbing an average of 9.7 rpg, and second in scoring (12.0 ppg). Cotton is second in boards with 6.9 rpg and LaKeisha Eaddy has a team-high 10 steals.
NC State comes to Temple riding a five-game winning streak after defeating Illinois on Thursday night, 61-47. Khadija Whittington led three players in double figures with game-highs of 19 points and 12 boards. Nikitta Gartrell scored 11 points, while Shayla Fields chipped in with 10 points and eight boards.
Whittington is the Wolfpack's top scorer and rebounder, averaging 19.8 ppg and 13.3 ppg. She is also tops in blocks (12) and steals (26). Gartrell is second with 10.1 ppg. Fields has dished a team-high 33 assists thus far this season. Today's game can be heard live on WPHT, The Big Talker 1210 AM.
Staley vs. Yow
Dawn Staley has only faced off against Kay Yow once in her coaching career (last season, Yow was undergoing chemotherapy treatments) but as a player, the two have a long and storied history. From 1989-92, Staley was 6-3 against Yow, and took the last four meetings, including a triple overtime 123-120 game on January 12, 1991, one of the longest games in NCAA history. As a coach, Staley lost to Yow, 64-71, during the 2000-01 season.
It's a Team Thing
Temple has one of its deepest benches that it has had in years. At leas 13 different players have played in at least six of TU's seven games so far this season.
