PHILADELPHIA-LaKeisha Eaddy scored a game-high 19 points, including 10 in the first half, and added three steals but it was not enough as the Temple women's basketball team dropped its exhibition game to The All-Stars, 74-70. Ashley Morris chipped in with 15 points and four assists, while Shenita Landry had 12 points, a game-high two blocks and six rebounds.
The first half was all Eaddy as the sophomore guard scored eight of the Owls' 13 points by the 15:30 mark. TU continued to roll, going on an 11-2 run to take a 24-12 lead by 10:45. The All-Stars weren't quiet for long and rallied to tie the game at 28 with just over five minutes to play in the half. Nicole Pittman broke the tie with a lay-up at 4:55 but Villanova product Jana Rediger sank a trey to give the All-Stars its first lead of the game (31-30) just 20 seconds later. The squad was able to going into the break with a slight 39-38 advantage.
Eaddy started off the scoring in the second half to put Temple ahead and later sparked a seven point run to give Temple a 53-48 advantage at 12:34. The All-Stars battled back, however and were able to cut TU's lead to just one (53-52) at 8:55. Fatigue began to set in and a few costly Owl turnovers allowed the visitors to take as much as a seven point lead (71-64) with just two minutes to play. Landry scored four straight points in the closing seconds of the game to make it 73-70 but that would be as close as Temple to get before bowing out 74-70.
Newcomers Shanea Cotton, Lindsay Kimmel and Marli Bennett were impressive in their Temple debut, with Cotton grabbing a game-high nine rebounds and three steals and Kimmel contributing a solid nine point, six rebound performance. Bennett contributed five boards and two assists.
Temple opens the 2007-08 season on Monday, November 12 when it hosts Central Michigan at 7 p.m. in the Liacouras Center.
