PHILADELPHIA - This holiday season, children in the City of Philadelphia will have presents under their tree, thanks to Temple University's Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC).
Consisting of student-athletes from all 24 intercollegiate sports, SAAC wanted to do something to give back to the community during the holiday season. The group decided upon a toy drive, and the response was overwhelming. The student-athletes also received support and generous monetary donations from the coaching staffs.
All of the items collected (toys, books, gloves, scarves, baby items, and wrapping paper), as well as the monetary donations, were given to the Women Against Abuse (WAA) Emergency Shelter. Additionally, the baseball team collected toys and distributed them at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
On delivery day, juniors Reava Potter (Newark, Del.) from track & field and Jillian Ploof (Gibsonia, Pa.) of women's rowing represented SAAC.
Temple student-athletes have proven that they cannot only be successful athletically and academically but also in the community.
