PITTSBURGH, PA- The Owls (22-5) look to continue their winning ways as they enter the home stretch of the Atlantic 10 regular season with a road game against the Duquesne Dukes (7-18, 2-10 A-10) on Friday at 7 p.m. Temple has won seven straight games and posted a perfect 12-0 record in the A-10, which is tied with George Washington for the Conference's best.
History
This is the 36th meeting between the Temple Owls and the Duquesne Dukes. Temple leads the series, 25-10. The teams last met on March 5, 2006, when the Owls defeated the Dukes, 76-63, in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Shenita Landry led four players in double figures with 15 points as the Owls cruised to their seventh straight win and remained undefeated in the A-10 with a resounding 72-55 win over Charlotte on Sunday. Kamesha Hairston, Lady Comfort and LaKeisha Eaddy each added 14 points to improve Temple's record to a perfect 12-0 in the Conference. With the win, the Owls, who are currently tied for first place in the Conference with George Washington (12-0), will finish no lower than second in the A-10. Temple continued to dominate on the glass, out-rebounding Charlotte, 45-25, and used a 52% shooting percentage to overcome 18 turnovers. Comfort nearly missed a double-double with nine rebounds, while Landry added eight. Hairston and Eaddy dished four assists a piece. Jasmine Stone had another admirable day with six points and six rebounds.
Hairston leads Temple in scoring and rebounding, averaging 19.8 ppg and 8.8 rpg. Comfort is second with 13.4 ppg and 6.5 rpg. Fatima Maddox is third, averaging 11.4 ppg. Eaddy continues to put up great numbers, with the guard fourth in scoring (7.3 ppg) and first in assists (105).
Duquesne dropped their ninth game in a row Sunday afternoon with a 71-59 loss at St. Bonaventure. The Bonnies battled back from an early first quarter 11-point deficit to tie the contest at 36 with 17:56 remaining in regulation. Dana Mitchell's jumper six seconds later gave the Bonnies their first lead of the game, 38-36, which also put them ahead for good. The Dukes were led by senior Carmen Bruce's game-high 21 points on 8-11 shooting. Juniors Jade Singleton and Jocelyn Chandler added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Singleton led DU with six rebounds.
Loui Hall leads the Dukes in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.1 ppg and 6.3 rpg, while Bruce is second with 12.5 ppg. Keri Pryor rounds out double figure scoring with 10.3 ppg. Kristi Little is tops in assists, dishing out 87 helpers.
Defense Wins Championships
Temple has always been known for its tenacious defense and this season is no different. The Owls are limiting their opponents to an average of 58.3 ppg and are posting an average of 32 defensive rebounds per game.
