Atlantic 10 All-Conference Teams
PHILADELPHIA - Temple sophomore OF Sean Barksdale and junior SS Ryan Weber have been named to the All-Atlantic 10 first and second team, respectively, in voting conducted by the conference head coaches. Barksdale batted .359 with seven home runs and 59 RBI, which was good for second in the Atlantic 10. Weber led the conference in hits (86) and batted .368 in his first season in Owl Country.
Barksdale, a transfer from Gloucester CC (NJ), made an immediate impact in the Temple lineup. He started 53 games in right field and his .359 batting average was second on the team behind Weber. He led the team in slugging percentage (.544), stolen bases (14) and RBI (59). The 59 runs batted in are good for fourth on the Temple single-season list and are the most at TU in 22 years.
The reigning Atlantic 10 and Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week (5/21), Barksdale batted a team-high .432 with runners in scoring position. He owned a 19-game hitting streak from March 23-April 22, batting .457 over that span. Barksdale also had five games with at least four RBI, including three in his final six games. He is the first Temple outfielder to be honored on the all-conference team since Al Roach in 2004.
Weber, a transfer from Eastfield JC (TX), set a new program record for hits in a season with 86 and led the team in batting average (.368), good for sixth in the A-10. He was second on the team in runs (50) and doubles (17), while driving in 34 runs from the second spot in the batting order.
He was even better in A-10 play, batting .385 with a conference-best 47 hits. Weber finished the season on an 11-game hitting streak and hit safely in 44 of 55 games. A converted closer, Weber nailed down four saves, all in A-10 games, and had a 4.50 ERA. Defensively, Weber provided a steady glove at shortstop, fielding at a .940 clip and is the first shortstop to be named to the all-conference team since Joe Kerrigan, Jr. in 1999.
St. Bonaventure senior first baseman Brian Pellegrini was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year for the second straight season and Adam Mills, a senior righthander from Charlotte, earned Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year honors in voting conducted among the league's head coaches. In that same vote, freshman starting pitcher Matt Zielinski of Richmond was named the A-10 Rookie of the Year while Charlotte's Loren Hibbs was tabbed the Coach of the Year.
Additionally, St. Bonaventure junior Randy Moley was named Student-Athlete of the Year in voting among the Conference's sports information directors.
