PHILADELPHIA - Junior Ryan Weber has been named the Owlsports.com Athlete of the Month for May after batting a team-high .409 in 14 games and breaking a 22-year old program record. Weber finished the season with 86 hits, breaking the previous single season record of 83, set by George Clark in 1985.
The shortstop had seven doubles and a home run, while driving in 10 runs during the month. He led the team in runs (15), hits (27), and doubles (seven) and also recorded one save on the mound. He hit safely in 13 of 14 games and finished the season on an 11-game hitting streak.
His best performance may have come in the team's final game of the season on May 20, a 13-11 win at St. Bonaventure. He broke the single-season hits record, drove in the winning run in the top of the 11th inning and pitched a scoreless inning for the save.
A first team All-Philadelphia Big 5 and second team All-Atlantic 10 shortstop, Weber led the team in batting average (.368) and was second on the team in runs (50) and doubles (17), while driving in 34 runs from the second spot in the batting order. A converted closer, Weber nailed down four saves and had a 4.50 ERA.
