Men's Track Ties For Best Finish Ever At A-10s, Placing Fifth

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Temple men's track team finished fifth at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship this weekend, tying for its best ever finish at the conference meet. The Owls also placed fifth in 1997 and 2001. Junior Andrew Fries finished second in the javelin with an IC4A qualifying distance of 199-2 and sophomore Joshua Louis was also the runner-up in the high jump (6-6 1/4).
The Cherry and White also picked up points in the decathlon as a pair of freshman finished third and fourth, respectively. Rookie Adam Hegal was third with 5826 points, while classmate Alex Schiavi was fourth with 5734 points.
Junior Marcos Edghill continued to show his versatility, finishing sixth in the 110m hurdles (14.90), seventh in the 100m (11.00) and ninth in the 200m (22.91). Freshman David Stonfer was fourth in the 400m (49.58) and sophomore Jason Sullivan placed seventh in the 800m (1:55.22). Freshman Brad McFadden was also seventh in the 400m hurdles (55.47).
In the throws, sophomore Bryce Buffaloe was seventh in the hammer throw (148-2), eighth in the shot put (41-7 3/4) and tenth in the discus (122-2). Freshman Grant West was sixth in the hammer throw (155-0).
The jumps were also good to Temple, as Hegal was sixth in the long jump (22-4 1/2) and freshman Garrett Summers was ninth in the triple jump (42-8).
Junior Ryan McCarthy defended his title in the shot put with a mark of 54-3 1/4; and Rhode Island set a meet record in the 4x100m relay on Sunday en route to capturing the team title. Last year's champion Charlotte finished in second place with 149 points, followed by La Salle (125), Duquesne (83), Temple (61), Fordham (59), Saint Joseph's (54), Massachusetts (48), Xavier (21), Richmond (17) and Saint Louis (11).
Several Owls will head to the IC4A Championship next weekend at Princeton.
