Fordham Completes Series Victory With Win Over Temple

BRONX, NY - Fordham posted a season-high 21 hits and completed the series victory with a 21-5 victory over Temple on Sunday afternoon at Houlihan Park. The Rams scored 10 runs in their first three at-bats to put the game away early and remain in third place in the conference standings with two weekends to play. Sophomore Carmen Del Mastro had three hits to pace Temple.
The hosts plated a single run in the first, before tacking on four in the second and five in the third to hold a 10-1 lead after three innings. The 21 runs scored by the Rams are the most since the 2000 squad scored 26 in a 26-10 win over Wagner. John Mollicone led the Fordham offense, going a perfect 5-for-5 with a double and five RBI.
Temple's offense, which is second in the A-10 in hitting at .299, banged out 14 hits but stranded 15 runners. Junior Ryan Weber and sophomore Kyle Obal both had two hits on the day. Obal has now hit safely in 12 of his past 14 games and is 22-for-46 (.478) since April 17.
TU (17-29, 8-13 A-10) scored a run in the first on junior Mike Kelch's RBI single. The visitors added four more in the eighth, as six straight batters reached base in the inning. Freshman Matt Heltz, Del Mastro, pinch-hitter Lenny DelGrippo and junior Tom Dolan all had RBI singles in the frame.
Sophomore Matt Mongiardini suffered the loss after allowing 10 earned runs in 2.1 innings. He falls to 3-6. Javier Martinez (7-4) was the winner, giving up one earned run in six innings for Fordham (25-20, 13-8 A-10).
