PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations (PCHR) has selected Dawn Staley as the recipient of the 2007 Clarence Farmer Service Award, the organization's highest honor. Past recipients of the award, named in recognition of Farmer's work with the PCHR, include Philadelphia 76ers Executive Vice President Sonny Hill, former National League Baseball Commissioner Bill White, former Mayor Ed Rendell and former Police Commissioner John F. Timoney.

Staley will be honored at the PCHR's annual luncheon on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Through the establishment of the Dawn Staley Foundation, the three-time Olympian and WNBA star has influenced diverse inner-city youth through a number of initiatives, including after-school programs; summer sports leagues and mentoring programs. The Foundation's mission is to create a future of hope for at-risk youth.

Clarence Farmer, a principal in Clarence Farmer Associated, Inc. (consultants), has a long list of community involvements including president of the Center for Adult Training, chairman of the Afro-American Historical and Cultural Museum, president of the Philadelphia Housing and Development Corporation and co-chairman of the Minority and Woman Owned Business Input Task Force of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of Geneva College and serves on its board of trustees, as well as the boards of many other civil, cultural and educational organizations.
