Women's Fencing Ends Regular Season with 5-0 Mark at Duke Multi-Meet

DURHAM, N.C. - Saving its best for last, Temple's women's fencing team turned out one of its best performances in the final meet of the regular season, finishing 5-0 from the Duke Multi-Meet over the weekend.
The Owls topped Brandneis 21-6, Air Force 23-4, MIT 19-8, North Carolina 21-6 and host Duke 19-8 to complete the perfect weekend. The Owls finish the regular season with a 24-6 record.
"The girls were very focused and fenced very hard against some very good competition," said head coach Nikki Franke. "The meets were harder than the scores indicate, but we were able to win several key bouts against the better fencers there."
The top performers for the Cherry and White were the senior trio of Samantha Myles, Marla Nacey and Brianna Ferrara. Myles was a perfect 8-0 on the weekend, while Nacey finished 9-1 and Ferrara was 5-1. In addition, every Temple fencer finished the meet with a winning record.
The Owls also took home first place awards as the best foil and epee squads at the meet and finished second in sabre.
The postseason begins next weekend for the Owls with the start of the Junior Olympics from Charlotte. Action is slated to begin on Friday at 8:00 a.m. and last through Monday.
