NEW YORK - The Temple fencing team captured its 12th consecutive NIWFA Championship at Hunter College in New York over the weekend, sweeping all three team events and all three individual events. The sweep marks the first time in Temple fencing history that the team has captured all six events at the NIWFA Championships.
"Today's results help highlight the breadth and depth of talent on our team, " said assistant coach Bradley Baker. "We had contributions from every member as we swept both the squad and individual titles. Hopefully this result will help propel us through the rest of the post-season, both NCAA Regionals next weekend and the NCAA Championships later in March".
Individual winners for the Owls included junior Nina Gernes who captured first place for the Owls in the foil, freshmen Alyssa Lomdardi, who captured first place in the epee and sophomore Christie Griffith, who won first place in the sabre.
