PHILADELPHIA - Senior Mike Mongiardini, who allowed just two hits and one earned run over six innings on Monday, has been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Pitcher of the Week in voting conducted by the area head coaches and sports information offices. Mongiardini struck out three and walked three in his first start for Temple against Bethune-Cookman after transferring from Yale.
The brother of Owl junior Matt Mongiardini, Mike has allowed opponents to hit just .111 against him. He left the game trailing 1-0 against the Wildcats after six innings and 75 pitches. The Owls railled, but fell short in the series finale, losing 4-3.
The southpaw is scheduled to throw on Sunday when the Cherry and White visit Old Dominion (1-1). Saint Joseph's Jeremy Jakubowski won the Big 5 Player of the Week after batting .571 in four games.
