Women's Fencing Posts 9-3 Record at Northwestern

CHICAGO - The Temple women's fencing team traveled to a snowy Chicago and posted a 9-3 mark at the Northwestern Multi-Meet over the weekend.
The Owls finished 4-2 on day one, falling only to #1 Notre Dame and #6 Northwestern. On day two, the Cherry and White finished 5-1, with the lone loss coming to #2 Ohio State.
"One of the purposes of the season is to see where we are and what we need to be doing," said Coach Franke. "These meets helped to show us where we've been making improvements this season and what we have left to do to prepare for post- season play."
The foil squad produced six 9-0 shutouts, including in five of six meets on Sunday.The sabre delivered six of their own, while epee accounted for three.
Sophomore sabre Sara Haase led the way with a 17-4 mark. Junior foil Nina Gernes and sophomore foil Meredith Bratton also had excellent weekends, each going 12-2. Junior epeeist Kaitlyn Uckert, last week's Owl Athlete of the Week produced another stellar effort for the Owls, finishing 12-4.
The Owls are back in action this Saturday when they head to the Duke Multi-meet. Action is slated to begin at 9:00 a.m.
