NORFOLK, VA - Old Dominion took advantage of 13 walks and three errors to cruise to a 12-0 victory over Temple on Sunday afternoon in the series finale at the Bud Metheny Complex. Junior Carmen Del Mastro singled and doubled for the Owls.

The Monarchs (4-3) did most of their damage in the middle innings, scoring five in the fourth, five in the fifth and two in the sixth. An Edgar Hernandez three-run homerun in the fourth broke a scoreless tie and from that point on, it was all ODU. Old Dominion really broke it open by scoring five runs on three walks, a hit batsmen and an error in the fifth.

Freshman Byron McKoy's fourth-inning double was the only hit off ODU starter Ryan Burgh (1-0) until the seventh. Burgh, the least-heralded of the Monarch starting rotation, pitched the best. He picked up the win with seven scoreless innings and struck out five.

Freshman Ben Flanary picked up his first collegiate hit with one out in the seventh and the Owls loaded the bases after singles by Del Mastro and junior Lenny DelGrippo, but could not push across a run.

Senior Mike Mongiardini suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs in 3.1 innings. He walked five and struck out two to fall to 1-1.

Freshman Jordan Cannon pitched two scoreless innings of relief, including getting out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the sixth.

Jake McAloose and Chris Buss each had two hits for Old Dominion.

Temple (2-4) begins the mid-week portion of the schedule on Wednesday when it visits Rutgers at 3 PM.
