McKoy Earns Atlantic 10 And Philadelphia Big 5 Honors

PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Byron McKoy has been named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week and Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. The Charlotte, NC native batted .478 (11-for-23) in five games last week to propel Temple into a tie for first place in the Atlantic 10 standings.
McKoy had three doubles and a home run during the week and drove in five runs. The outfielder also had four steals and has now stolen 10 straight bases without being caught. He batted .563 (9-for-16) with four RBI during a three-game sweep of Duquesne over the weekend.
His best game came on Sunday in the series finale against the Dukes when he batted 4-for-5 and scored three runs. On Saturday, he had a single, double and home run and drove in a pair of runs for the Owls. The rookie hit safely in all five games last week to extend his hitting streak to seven games.
McKoy leads the team in batting (.344), hits (45), doubles (nine) and slugging percentage (.481), and is second in runs (27), home runs (three), and steals (13).
He shares the A-10 award with La Salle freshman Kevin Fuqua, who had a complete game victory over Fordham on Sunday.
Temple (20-17, 11-4 A-10) is in a first-place tie with Charlotte with four weekends to play. The Cherry and White hosts Big 5 rival Villanova on Tuesday at 3 PM.
