Temple Track To Compete At Prestigious Penn Relays This Week

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's and women's track teams will compete at the 114th Penn Relays beginning on Thursday at Franklin Field. One of the nation's most prestigious track events, the Owls will send seven individuals and seven relays to compete against some of the country's best athletes.

On Thursday, freshman Assata Cowart will start things off at 10:00 AM in the 400m hurdles. She enters the race with the top time in the Atlantic 10 this season.

Also at 10:00 AM, freshman Melissa Gale will look to improve on her season best pole vault of the season, 11-5 3/4, which she recorded last week at the Larry Ellis Invitational.

At 11:15 AM, junior Amanda Cole will compete in the hammer throw. She is an NCAA Regional and ECAC Championship qualifier in the event with a season-best distance of 178-3.

The 4x100 relay of senior Cheryl Anscombe, junior Carlleen Allison, freshman Danyielle Lambert and junior Rose Drayton will take the oval at 1:00 PM. Temple's best 4x100 relay time of 46.80 is second in the A-10.

Later in the afternoon at 5:25 PM, the 4x400 relay comprised of Allison, Cowart, Anscombe and freshman Paris Williams will look to better its season-best time of 3:48.80.

On Friday, sophomores Brad McFadden (400m hurdles) and Tim Boeni (long jump) will compete at 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM, respectively.

Five relays will also be in action, beginning with the men's 4x200 (senior Marcos Edghill, freshman Miles Dryden, sophomore David Stonfer and junior Gavin Webb) at 1:40 PM. Twenty minutes later, the women's 4x200 of Anscombe, Allison, Williams and Drayton will compete.

The men's 4x400 relay of junior Darnell Bowser, junior Jason Sullivan, junior Mitch Stroh and Stonfer will be in action at 4:25 PM. At 6:10 PM, the sprint medley team of Anscombe, Allison, Williams and senior Noelle McKenzie will compete. Fifteen minutes later, the men's sprint medley (Edghill, Dryden, Stonfer and Sullivan) will hit the track.

On Saturday, sophomore Grant West (hammer throw) and senior Andrew Fries (javelin) will compete for the Owls. The championship for the men's 4x100 and men's and women's 4x200 and 4x400s will also take place on Saturday.
