PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Byron McKoy has been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player of the Week, in voting conducted by the schools' head coaches and sports information offices. It is the second straight honor for the Charlotte, NC native, who batted .571 with two doubles and two home runs in four games last week.
McKoy also stole three bases last week and has not been caught stealing since March 23 at Rhode Island. He scored a team-high seven runs and also drove in four.
A hit in every game this week extended his hitting streak to 11 games and he is batting .489 during that span. McKoy leads the team in hitting (.366), hits (53), doubles (11), home runs (five), slugging pct. (.545) and on-base pct. (.419).
La Salle's Drew Gerhart was named the Big 5 Pitcher of the Week.
Temple (20-21, 11-7 A-10) visits Lafayette on Wednesday at 3:30 PM.
