TOWSON, MD - Towson hit four two-run home runs and won for the eighth time in the past 10 games with a 9-5 victory over visiting Temple on Wednesday at Schuerholz Park. The Owls scored four runs to cut the deficit to 7-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh but the Tigers' final dinger of the day put the game out of reach. Senior Mike Kelch and sophomore Matt Heltz each had a pair of hits for TU.

Towson (16-16) blasted five home runs yesterday in a 14-5 victory over Bucknell and came up just one shy of that number against the Owls (14-15). Three of the homers came in the first three frames as the hosts took a 7-1 lead heading into the fourth. The final blast, a two-run shot by Greg Furmanek in the seventh, stopped any momentum Temple may have gained from cutting the deficit to 7-5 in the top of the frame.

Heltz drove in the game's first run when he knocked in senior Stan Orzechowski, who was hit by a pitch, with two outs in the first. Orzechowski made it 7-2 in the fifth when he scored freshman Steve Nikorak, who led off the inning with a double.

Junior Mark Ortega singled home Kelch, who also doubled, in the sixth and junior Sean Barksdale blasted his team-leading third home run of the seventh to make it 7-5. That would be as close as the Owls would get.

Sophomore Mike Click suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs in 1.2 innings. He drops to 1-2. Freshman Ben White and sophomore Ryan Thomas threw two and one scoreless inning, respectively, out of the bullpen.

Chris Wychook singled, homered and drove in two runs for Towson. Corey Cascio (1-0) was the winning pitcher after allowing two earned runs in five innings. He struck out five.

Temple hosts Richmond (14-17-1, 5-4 A-10) in an Atlantic 10 series beginning Friday at 3 PM.
