PHILADELPHIA - Temple senior Stan Orzechowski has been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player of the Week, in voting conducted by the schools' head coaches and sports information offices. Orzechowski batted .526 (10-for-19) with five RBI in four games last week for the Owls.
The Philadelphia native led the team with eight runs scored and added a double and home run. He has hit safely in the past six games, raising his average from .262 to .292 during that span.
Orzechowski started the week with a career-high five hits on Wednesday at Lafayette. He was 3-for-5 with three RBI on Saturday at George Washington and led off Sunday's game with a solo homer against the Colonials.
The 2007 All-Big 5 selection leads the team in run scored (45) and is second in RBI (30) and triples (two).
La Salle freshman Sean Kennedy won Big 5 Pitcher of the Week honors after throwing a complete game at St. Bonaventure.
Temple (21-24, 12-9 A-10) returns to action on Wednesday when it visits Delaware.
