NEWARK, DE - Senior Stan Orzechowski led off the game with a home run for the second straight contest, but from that point on it was all Delaware as the Blue Hens took a 22-4 victory over Temple on Wednesday at Bob Hannah Stadium. Orzechowski and senior Tom Dolan led the Owls with two hits each.
Following Orzechowski's homer, Temple took a 2-0 lead on sophomore Matt Heltz's sacrifice fly that plated junior Sean Barksdale. Delaware hit the first of five home runs on the day to make it 2-1 in the second and the Owls left the bases loaded in the second.
The host Blue Hens then scored three in the second, three in the fourth, five in the fifth, six in the sixth and four in the seventh to blow the game open. The Cherry and White scored a pair of runs on junior Jamie Abercrombie's two-run double in the eighth.
Freshman Steve Nikorak suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs in three innings. He fell to 1-3 on the season.
Barksdale stole his 21st base of the season, the most by an Owl since Bobby Higginson swiped 23 in 1992.
Delaware's Corey Crispell (3-3) picked up his third win, and his second over Temple, by allowing two earned runs in five innings.
Scott Shockley had three hits, including a double and home run, and drove in five runs for UD (20-28).
Temple (21-25) hosts Dayton in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 3 PM.
