PHILADELPHIA - One season after capturing the Atlantic 10 regular season championship, the Temple field hockey team has been picked to finish second for the upcoming season in voting conducted by the league's head coaches last week.
Under fourth year head coach Amanda Janney, the Owls will rely on key contributors such as senior defender Mary Catherine Kinneman, senior goalkeeper Erin Hanshue (2007 A-10 honorable mention), and junior forward Dannah Brehm (2007 A-10 first team selection) in hopes of capturing the Atlantic 10 crown for the first time since 1994.
Last season, behind A-10 Offensive Player of the Year Alli Lokey and Defensive Player of the Year Ashley Bird, the Cherry and White finished the season at 15-6, recording the program's most victories since 1991 and capturing the A-10 regular season crown.
Defending champion UMass was tabbed to finish first, followed by Richmond, Saint Joseph's, West Chester, La Salle and Saint Louis.
Temple will host the A-10 Field Hockey Championship on November 7-8 at Geasey Field.
