NEW YORK - Freshman Travis Mahoney broke a school record in the 3000m and sophomore Joshua Louis also matched ECAC standards to lead the Temple men's track field team at the Gotham Cup from the Armory Track Center in New York on Friday evening.
Mahoney, a freshman who helped lead the Temple cross country team to one of best seasons in program history, topped the previous school record in the 3000m with a time of 8.49.83.
Louis, the reigning A-10 Male Performer of the Week, took third in the men's high jump with a jump of 6-10.25, once again topping ECAC standards.
There were several other standout performers for the Cherry and White at the Gotham Cup. Junior Grant West finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 54-08.25, just missing ECAC qualifying standards. Lynch took the third place in the men's long jump, with a jump of 21-05.5. Freshman Anthony Boone finished ninth in the 500m with a time of 1:05.79, followed closely by sophomore Josh Shumberger (22nd/1:06.86). Following West's performance, sophomore Bob Keough (52-04.50) finished ninth in the weight throw.
The Owls will return to action next weekend with Terrier Cup from Boston University.
