Women's Basketball Wraps Up Big Five Play With Wednesday Game Versus La Salle

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple women's basketball team (10-6, 2-1 A-10) returns to the Liacouras Center Wednesday night, hosting La Salle (9-9, 0-3 A-10) in the Owls' Big Five finale. The game, which tips off at 7 p.m., can be heard live on 1210 AM WPHT. Temple is currently 2-1 in Big Five play, while La Salle is 2-0 in city series play.
Series Record
This is the 37th meeting between Temple and La Salle, with La Salle leading the series, 20-16. The Owls won the last meeting, 60-55, on February 2, 2008 and have won the last 10 meetings.
Gimmie Five...A Big Five
Temple has won the last four Philadelphia Big Five titles and five of the last seven. The Owls have gone a perfect 4-0 through the city series for four straight seasons and won a record-setting 18 consecutive Big Five games before falling to Villanova, 65-56, on 12/20. The Owls are currently 2-1 in city series play.
Scouting the Owls
Kristi Little scored 30 points and notched eight steals to lead Duquesne to a 68-57 win over Temple on Sunday. Shenita Landry led the Owls with a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds, while LaKeisha Eaddy and Shaqwedia Wallace chipped in with 13 a piece but it was not enough to offset 26 TU turnovers. Kristen McCarthy rounded out double figure scorers with 11 points. Landry and Shanea Cotton combined for nine blocks, with Cotton compiling a career-high five, and Eaddy dished five assists. The first half was tight, featuring five ties and five lead changes.
Landry leads four Owls in double figures with 13.1 ppg and a team-high 9.4 rpg, while Cotton is second with 12.3 ppg. Wallace is third with 11.4 ppg. Eaddy is fourth with 10.4 ppg and has dished a squad-high 75 assists.
Scouting the Explorers
Jamie Walsh's three pointer with one second left capped a remarkable comeback for La Salle - down by as many as 16 in the second half - and forced overtime. However the Billikins, behind a Tom Gola Arena and Saint Louis single-game record of 37 points from Theresa Lisch, pulled out the win, 77-73, Saturday. Walsh scored a team-high 24 points - which included a career-high six three-point baskets and 21 points after the break - to lead La Salle, while Morgan Robertson notched her eighth double-double of the year with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and Margaret Elderton added nine points and a game-high and career-high tying eight assists.
Robertson leads three Explorers in double figures with 12.9 ppg and a team-high 8.7 rpg, while Elderton is second with 12.1 ppg. Ashley Gale is third with 11.0 ppg.
