Witmer nets his second goal of the weekend in loss
Kingston, RI – The Temple men's soccer team (7-4-1, 2-1-0 in A-10) was handed its first conference loss Sunday afternoon in cold and rainy conditions in Kingston, RI. A two-goal first half from Rhode Island proved to be too much for the Owls, as they fell 4-1.
The Rams opened the scoring in the second minute, with Thomas Lindroos scoring on a cross from Greg Balicki. They would tack on another goal in the 15th minute, with Balicki netting on a free kick from the top of the box.
Owls' leading goal scorer sophomore Tyler Witmer attempted to get things going for TU, netting unassisted his sixth goal of the season, as he grabbed the ball off a clearing attempt and quickly sent it top right corner.
Rhode Island would regain momentum in the second half, with Gary Crooks netting a pair of unanswered goals to put the Rams up for good at 4-1.
Owls' keeper Bret Mollon posted four saves allowing as many goals, and was replaced with 21-minutes left by senior Bryant Hosler, who made three saves. The Cherry and White could not find any rhythm in their offense, being out shot 28 to 5.
The Owls are back in action when they return to Ambler next Friday to do battle with St. Bonaventure at 12:30 p.m.
