Temple Baseball Announces Captains For 2010 Season

Mongiardini and Nikorak selected by teammates to captain squad
Ambler, PA – Head coach Rob Valli and the Temple baseball team have announced the captains for the 2010 campaign. As voted on by the team, redshirt-senior Matt Mongiardini and redshirt-sophomore Steve Nikorak have been selected as the captains for the upcoming campaign.
“We have a great group of young men in our program, most of which take pride in leading our team in one way or another,” commented Valli. “For Matt and Steve to be selected by their teammates as captains shows just how special they are. We are confident that they will lead by example on and off the field.”
Both individuals return to the diamond after injury's hampered their seasons a year ago. For Mongiardini, he returns for his final season donning the Cherry and White. In 2008, he garnered All-Philadelphia Big 5 honors, going 6-5 with a 3.59 ERA in 14 starts. That same year Nikorak showed his versatility, starting 30 games at first and third base while also recording a 3-3 record on the hill (4.58 ERA).
The Owls wrap up their week with the Cherry and White Fall Classic, with intrasquad scrimmages on Friday, October 23 (3:15 p.m.) and Saturday, October 24 (9:40 p.m.).
